Liberty Genetics has been operating for 15 years. Initially Liberty Genetics was set up by a cooperative of NZ farmers to provide top quality genetics at a heavily discounted rate. The founders had become concerned at escalating AB costs and the decreasing returns to bull breeders. The intention from the start was to have a co-operative that created value for NZ farmers as a whole and to provide great genetics at the best possible price.

Based on these foundations, Liberty Genetics had always had a culture of providing the best value AB they can, to think like the farmers they serve, and to have more transparent operations than normal business structures.

Liberty Genetics specializes in quality pastoral genetics in the dairy industry taking the innovative approach of using ‘teams’ of young sires from Holstein Friesian, Jersey & cross breed bulls.

The quality of using this style of breeding program shows with 9% of Liberty Genetics’s graduates being of (rising Active Sires) RAS List Calibre. This is an industry leading graduation rate, in fact Liberty Genetics are outperforming our market share, by 3 times.

This occurs as a result of the experience and calibre of the geneticist, Dr Dave Hayman. Dr Hayman and his advisors, select the 12-20 bulls in each team from a cross section of NZ’s most successful bulls .

When Liberty Genetics started, no other company was actively selling young sires outside of organised Progeny Testing but now about 20% of the industry are using Liberty Genetics’s young sire model.

What’s more, Liberty Genetics has always offered young sires at a discount to proven sires whereas other companies usually charge a premium.
