The Milly Moo Separator Jug

It started off like this. We have a house cow, Milly. I milk her daily as part of the routine – The milk is great and our guests are impressed (we have about 300 acres and up market tourism) but Milly is Frisian so not a lot of cream.

To obtain the cream you’d normally let it settle then skim it off the top. When I looked at the cost of a separator they are very expensive but then thought, why not fit a tap at the bottom of the milk jug so with a drill and a plastic tap I have done just that. Simple – it works. A bit like a paper clip, I have looked around and scoured the internet and nobody is making a simple jug with a tap. There are sophisticated glass and ceramic ones but…..  A simple jug you can pour from both ends is not available.  The main thing is this is not just applicable for Milk either. Many fluid concoctions such as iced fruit smoothies have needed for similar. Jug manufacturers sometimes build a strainer into the lid but that can quickly get blocked but with a tap at the bottom the floating stuff can be left behind.
As a result of compliments and comments from farmers and others who have seen my creation which we use daily I have taken out a patent pending application.
There is resurgence for “raw” milk MAF permit 5l per person gate sales by dairy farmers in New Zealnd and in Europe and elsewhere there are raw milk vending machines maintained by the farmers.
The Fluid separator does not have to be just for Milk It will work with any liquids of different specific gravity such as Oil and water so anyone who makes their own essential oils needs one!
