What do you get when you put your Canadian wife in a cowshed? Besides a lot of complaining you create a situation where “good old kiwi ingenuity” takes over to solve a problem. The daily problem of the cowshed hoses always kinking and bending, interrupting the flow of water and the flow of milking the cows bothered Cynthia Stark enough to express her shear frustration. Her husband, David Stark dawned on his engineering skills to develop the first prototype of the product now known as the Stark HoseSwivel™.
Stark Innovations Limited was incorporated in 1998 to begin the long road of product development and patent protection of this unique product. The initial founders and managing directors, David and Cynthia Stark have taken this simple idea and developed it into a marketable product which has sparked the interest of many companies and users within New Zealand and overseas. The product was successfully launched at the New Zealand National Fieldays in June 2001 and the Ellerslie Flower Show in November 2001.
David’s 25 years’ experience in dairy farming and the last 8 years of beef/sheep/cropping has prepared him to leave the everyday workings of his farming business to pursue his interest in inventing more products like the Stark HoseSwivel™. Cynthia, a science graduate from Dalhousie University in Canada is completing her Law degree (LLB Hons) here in New Zealand at the same time as performing the administrative tasks for the company.
Stark Innovations is a fast growing company with its team expanding to include: International licensing, global distribution, product development, market research, domestic and regional distribution, marketing, accounts and finance.
